Now Stop using pirated copy of Windows XP

Today when i ON my pc at 6. AM .. I got an email from my best friend the email was about "Pirated copy of XP"

Microsoft has updated Windows XP’s Windows Genuine Advantage(WGA) system that detects the pirated XP copies and annoys users. The WGA system automatically changes the background wallpaper of the desktop to plain black colour when it detects a pirated copy.

This is another trick of Microsoft to force people to buy only genuine copy of windows XP. but In third world countries like India, Bangladesh, Nepal.... who cares about this!!

Intel : Humans will create computers smarter than themselves within the next forty years.

Speaking at the final keynote of the Intel Developer Forum Intel’s chief technology officer Justin Ratner said that the company, currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, would create true artificial intelligence in the next forty.

“It’s in that future that machines from Intel will surpass human intelligence,” he said.

“And progress in next hundred years will be more like the progress of last 20,000 years of human history because of technology.”

However, there were significant problems ahead in both the short and long term and he outlined some of the solutions Intel was researching.

Conventional complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) technology still had a way to go, certainly to 32nm, said Dr Mike Garner program manager for Intel’s emerging materials group.

“We’ll need new materials to improve transistor performance and new technologies like tri-gate transistors. Trigate gives you more power, lower leakage and better density.”

“CMOS will be the platform [of the processor] and then we’ll have other things on top of that.”

These would involve a possible switch from binary logic systems once quantum computers came online.

Besides from the processors Intel was also working on signalling. Ratner demonstrated a photonic system that has a laser built onto a silicon chip sending data at 3.2 GBps down optical cable.

Intel scientists were working on a chip that had 20 such lasers, capable of data rates of up to 1 TBps.

Power will also be an issue. Ratner demonstrated how power could be beamed to a device wirelessly, albeit with a 25 per cent loss from just a few feet. He envisioned offices without power cables and possibly the abolition of the battery.

Jan Rabaey, the Donald O. Pederson Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California at Berkeley and Ratner then discussed how wireless devices could be improved.
Two techniques were suggested; cognitive radio and collaboration.

Cognitive radio would analyse the spectrum and switch to the best available option. This would lead to the freeing up of large amounts of spectrum for mobile connectivity.

Meanwhile wireless devices would also have to learn to work in concert in the future.

“Wireless radios don’t work together, in fact they fight each other,” Rabaey said.

“If they could work together the system is more efficient and you’d save energy. The FCC is looking actively at experiments in this space.”

WOW!! China Overtakes U.S. In Number Of Broadband Lines

China has overtaken the United States as having the largest number of broadband lines in the world, a market research firm said Friday.

As of the end of August, the U.S. and China each had about 78 million high-speed lines, British researcher Point Topic said. But with the number of Chinese lines increasing at twice the rate of the U.S., China has since taken the crown.

"This is a major milestone for China," Oliver Johnson, chief executive of Point Topic, said in a statement. "Launching people into space is spectacular, but having the biggest broadband market down here on earth means a lot more for building a modern, hi-tech economy."
China Thursday night launched three astronauts into space. China's third manned space mission in five years is expected to include the country's first attempt at a spacewalk, The New York Times reported.

When broadband use first surged in China, experts predicted the country would overtake the United States in 2006. However, growth in China leveled off, while the U.S. saw a speed up in the number of broadband lines, Point Topic said. Broadband grew in parallel for 18 months until the first quarter of this year, when China took a leap forward.

In the second quarter of this year, the number of new broadband lines in the U.S. fell to barely 1.1 million from 3.4 million in the last quarter of 2007, Point Topic said. Meanwhile, the number of lines in China soared to 5 million from 3.5 million. By the end of June, the U.S. had nearly 76.9 million broadband lines with China less than 900,000 lines behind. The gap was less than the number of lines China added in July alone, 1.14 million, according to China's official figures.

"We expect Q3 to show some improvement in the U.S.," Johnson said. "It's usually better than Q2. And growth in China is likely to fall back a bit. Even so, China is almost certainly going to come out ahead when all the figures are in."

Given that China has more than three times the homes and people as the U.S., it's not surprising that the country has taken the lead. But what is unexpected is the U.S. falling behind European and Asian countries in the percentage of broadband growth, Point Topic said. The U.S.'s weakening position has "serious implications" for its future competitiveness in a high-tech world.

Point Topic believes U.S.'s problems with broadband growth stems from "light-touch regulation" that allows incumbent operators to keep the broadband market largely to themselves. Less competition has led to higher prices and slower growth. In countries where competition has been more open, the broadband market has leapt ahead, the researcher said.
